5 things to wear for a boudoir photoshoot when you have “nothing to wear”

For some ladies, booking a boudoir photo-shoot is a brilliant opportunity to go through their lingerie collection and celebrate their favourite outfits. For others, this is a fantastic excuse to buy things they’ve always wanted to wear, and they jump straight online or to the high street for some lingerie shopping.
“I have nothing to wear”

However, for many clients choosing lingerie and deciding what to wear is a scary prospect and can actually hold them back from booking a boudoir experience in the first place! So many ladies have said to me that they can’t book their photo-shoot because they “have nothing to wear” and just don’t know where to start when shopping for outfits.

So if you that’s you, you could absolutely rock a boudoir photo-shoot with just 5 items!

1. bra

There are so many styles of bra to choose from, from padded push ups to cotton bralettes. There’s a shape to suit everyone so it’s great to try different things to see how they work with your body. If in doubt, a balconette style is usually uplifting whilst not being too constrictive.

You can opt for any colour that you love, but warm jewel colours from ruby red and amethyst purple to emerald green and sapphire blue are usually a good choice. Keep an eye out for details like lace panels and straps that add something to the overall look.

2. knickers

It’s best to choose knickers that match your bra, so don’t forget to look at the co-ordinating knickers they have available when choosing your bra. Many sets are also available with a couple of different styles of knickers, which is great for wearability in the future.

Like with your bras, it’s a good idea to try different styles to see what suits your body shape. High waisted knickers are my all time favourite style as they smooth the tummy, accentuate your waist and add a little vintage style. Whilst Brazilian styles are good for accentuating your bottom and thongs are a great cheeky option for perky bums no matter their size.

3. bodysuit

Anyone who follows us on social media will probably know that I love a bodysuit! If you’re going to buy just one new outfit for your photo-shoot - let it be this.

Like with bras, there’s a wide range of bodysuits available depending on your shape and style. For more voluptuous ladies it’s a good idea to look for underwires and structured panels to give you support, whilst athletic women can experiment with unstructured pieces with delicate straps or high necks.

4. layer

Adding a layer over your lingerie is a great way of changing up the look of your outfit. It can give you something to pose with, draw focus to your favourite features and show a little of your personal style too. There are infinite options here, so don’t be afraid to raid your wardrobe and get creative.

The most popular option is an oversized shirt which you might “steal” from your partner, or we have a few in our studio wardrobe if you’d like to borrow one. Other popular choices are a leather or denim jacket for a rockier look, or a silk robe or lace dressing gown for some dressing room glamour.

5. shoes

Finally, think about what you love to wear on your feet. This could be the perfect opportunity to wear those skyscrapers that you bought in a moment of optimism and can’t walk in!

Of course we love designer stilettos and classic court shoes, but knee high or thigh high boots can be just as sexy. Or indeed you could add something quirky like Doc Martins, wellies, riding boots, or even your roller skates! Have a think about what is very “you” and embrace it.

Choose quality over quantity

Though you can wear 3 or 4 looks during your photo-shoot with us, it’s always better to wear two lingerie outfits that fit really well and you love than bringing loads of options you’re not sure about. Everyone loves a bargain and catching something in your size can be great, but in general it’s better to treat yourself to a couple of key pieces with good support and details you love. Once you have your key items sorted, you can accessorise as much as you like - or just keep things simple.

So if you’ve been holding back from booking a shoot because you don’t know what to wear, just keep things simple! Two sets of underwear and a few accessories is all you need.
